Langmeil is home to The Freedom Shiraz vineyard, which we believe was planted in 1843 by vigneron Christian Auricht. Escaping war and persecution in Prussia, Auricht travelled to his new homeland, finding Freedom in the Barossa Valley. His original plantings survive to this day and at 171 years old are some of the oldest and rarest vines in the world.

Grenache has long been held in high esteem by Barossa winemakers. Despite being overlooked elsewhere due to a workhorse history, it has hidden depths and great potential.  Like a Rough Diamond, ordinary at first glance, its real beauty as a jewel is only revealed through cutting and polishing.

Many people choose this vibrant style of wine for their drinking pleasure during the warmer summer months.  Bella Rouge, Italian for “beautiful” and French for “red” respectively, takes its inspiration from these two traditional wine cultures, to make a refreshing rosé wine perfect for al fresco dining with family and friends.

The Live Wire represents an energetic evolution of the traditional Riesling style introduced by our migrant ancestors in the 1840s. From the renowned Barossa region it is finely balanced with upfront fruit and a tangy crispness on the finish. Vivacious and perfectly refreshing!

Orphan Bank is testament to Langmeil’s commitment to preserving old and rare Barossa vineyards. Ten rows of Shiraz planted pre-1860 were saved from the developer’s bulldozer and replanted alongside the original Langmeil vineyard on the banks of the North Para River. We called these ten rows the “Orphans”, but after 150 years they have a new home.

In 1842 a 32 year old Blacksmith, Christian Auricht, arrived from Prussia with his wife  and four children. He settled in the new hamlet of Langmeil and built a blacksmith shop in what became the village’s trading area. His original shop remains a feature of  the winery’s heritage today.

Hidden under the Monastrell and Mourvèdre aliases, Mataro has too often been relegated to the rank of a ‘blend only’ grape. The time for a Resurrection is upon us. Driven by a new generation of Barossa winemakers, Mataro is now taking its rightful place as a variety of regional significance.

Deep colour; rich ripe and concentrated aromas of dark plums and a faint whiff of eucalyptus/mint, dark chocolate and subtle toasty oak too. It's full bodied and rich, with a fleshy core and satisfying weight and mouth-feel. A generous, full-bodied red that will richly reward a few years in the cellar. Great value, too. Huon Hooke 93 points

Cabernet Sauvignon's origins reveal it was the Wild Child of two similar sounding grapes after a chance crossing in the seventeenth century. Growers suspected this due to the shared characters with both Franc and Blanc. Moreover, the Sauvignon itself derives frm 'sauvage', the French for wild.

Johanne Pfeiffer and Christian Auricht sought a new life in the Barossa, where they married and raised a family.  They  bought their traditions with them, including brides wearing black dresses on their wedding day. Sadly, Johanne was widowed in 1860, and this wine is named Black Widow in her honour.

Deep purple, the 29% Mourvèdre, 29% Petite Sirah, 15% Shiraz, 14% Carignan, 11% Counoise, and 2% Cinsault deliver a medium-bodied palate of juicy raspberry and boysenberry balanced by sweet and peppery spices and youthful, firm yet velvety tannins. Wine writer Gary Walsh awarded it 93 points, saying, 'So lively, all crushed black fruit, some raspberry, dried herb, plenty of stony tannins, juicy, sweet and a little savoury at once.' Black velvet with that slow southern style, if you please.
