The Langmeil Winery 2015 Old Vine Garden Collection makes Top 10 Barossa list

Huon Hooke, of the Real Review Alliance with Bob Campbell MW, has just released his reviews of the 2015 Langmeil Winery Old Vine Garden Collection with all wines featuring prominently across the Top 10s.

Langmeil Winery is considered an old vine Shiraz specialist, and in Huon Hooke's latest Barossa Shiraz Top 10, of the 133 wines tasted, Langmeil Winery was ranked #1 with Pure Eden Shiraz, #3 with The Freedom 1843 Shiraz and #7 with Orphan Bank Shiraz.

James Lindner said, “My brother Paul is making some of the best wines of his life right now. With each of his Old Vine Garden Shiraz wines making the Top 10, it is a testament to his extraordinary experience and unique understanding of these outstanding old vine vineyards."

"However, there is more to the Langmeil Winery Old Vine Garden Collection than Shiraz. As of today,
Jackaman's Cabernet Sauvignon is ranked #2 Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon and Fifth Wave Grenache #5 Barossa Grenache."

James Lindner added, “To have wine critics the calibre of Huon Hooke and Bob Campbell MW rate these wines as highly as they did made our day! It is recognition such as this which reminds us that our wines are still a relevant part of the Australian wine landscape.”

The Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet blends were quite mesmerising. We had elegance, fragrance and
finesse, contrasting with the more forceful and generally riper and bigger Margaret River styles, through to the more blockbuster-ish top-end Langmeil.”

“On to Shiraz, another parade of wonderment. Langmeil Pure Eden Shiraz 2015 was breathtaking for its concentration and opulence, Langmeil The Freedom 1843 Shiraz 2015 similarly.”

“These are all trophy-class wines."

Pure Eden Shiraz 2015 - 98

Deep red/purple colour. The first aroma of toasty oak, and lots of it, the palate very rich and dense, fleshy and full-bodied. The tannins are abundant and very supple; the mid-palate flooded with chocolate, fruitcake, raspberry and mocha flavours together with graphite, tar and Rhône-like spices. A riotously opulent shiraz and very Eden Valley.

The Freedom 1843 Shiraz 2015 - 97

Deep, youthful red/purple colour. The bouquet is fresh and bright, intense and plummy with rich ripe fruit evident above all, and smoky, charcoal, toasted-barrel oak obvious in the background. The wine is rich and dense, full-bodied and opulently flavoured and textured, the finish rolls on and on and the multiplicity of
flavours is impressive. Mocha, coffee, toasty caramelised oak, all make a big impact. Yes, it is very oaky, but the wine is also rich and concentrated enough to handle it, and the finish and aftertaste are soft and rich and not oaky-tasting or oak-hardened. A gloriously hedonistic shiraz. Absolutely decadent!

Orphan Bank Shiraz 2015 - 96

Very deep, bright red/purple colour. The bouquet is smoky-oaky and spicy, with Christmas cake and
chocolate notes, lots of charm and appeal. The oak is quite evident at present, but it's just a pup. The palate is rich and dense, full-bodied and generously flavoured, with good balance and texture, density and persistence. A statuesque shiraz for the long haul.

Jackaman’s Cab Sauv 2015  93

Deep, bright red/purple colour, with a fragrant and very attractive red fruits, peppermint and violet aromas;
a quite lovely bouquet. The wine is also delightful in the mouth, showing lots of density, fleshy extract,
concentration and tannin - but also attractive softness. Ripeness is exemplary; it treads the line well,
avoiding both excessive herbal characters and over-ripeness. A stylish, charming cabernet.

The Fifth Wave Grenache 2015 - 92

Medium to light red/purple colour. There's a lot of chocolate and vanilla in the bouquet, some Turkish
Delight, and the wine has a light, soft, but fleshy-smooth body and appealing palate balance, although the flavours and aromas are a bit one-dimensional. Soft, fine tannins. It may just need more time to reveal its goods. Still a very good wine and it's drinking nicely young.
